SUN

The SUN in the birth chart represents who this child is at heart, his primary thrust in life, and what path he needs to follow in order to fulfill himself as a unique individual. It indicates who he is inside rather than the way he appears (which is shown more clearly by the Rising Sign).

Sun in Capricorn:

At heart, Grey is a rather cautious, conservative person with a maturity and conscientiousness that makes him seem more like an adult than a child at times. He has a part of clear-eyed realism and practical sense that will surely enable him to successfully make his way in the world when he is older, but which can seem out of place in the world of make-believe, "pretend" games of fairies, princes, and dragons, and other types of imaginative play that many children enjoy. Actually, he prefers the real world to fantasy, and he prefers pastimes and playthings that correspond to the adult world:  a doctor kit, a set of miniature tools, small dishes and pots and pans, building blocks, etc. Setting up a little shop with play money and merchandise may be especially entertaining for him, and you are unlikely to meet a more responsible little businessperson!

Also atypical of many children, Grey actually enjoys being given responsibilities and chores, and for the most part, he can be relied upon to carry them out. He will work hard at school or around the house. His self-discipline and ability to concentrate and apply himself to his tasks is considerable. Sometimes he takes it all too seriously, however, and if he feels others are depending on him or expect high achievement of him, he can easily become burdened with an inordinate sense of obligation. While he does need to do things that give him a sense of solid accomplishment and to see concrete results for his efforts, he also sometimes needs to be reminded to enjoy himself, and not to be so hard and demanding of himself. He is likely to be his own worst critic, and he needs a lot of unconditional acceptance and warmth from his parents to help him keep his perspective.

Grey tends to emulate the adults in his life, and to respect their capabilities, wisdom, and authority. He likes the security of having a clearly defined set of rules and boundaries, and he does not eagerly embrace new ways or new people. It takes time for him to warm up or be willing to trust someone. He needs to watch quietly for awhile. He may need to be encouraged to take risks and to express himself freely. Try to convey to him that it is all right to make mistakes and to be a little foolish sometimes!

Sun Conjunct Pluto:

Grey is very willful and when he wants something, he goes after it wholeheartedly, even fanatically, but he may hide his intentions, as he has a very private side. He tends to go to extremes. He may have an infatuation with power, fame, or personal glory, and he needs to learn to use his own power effectively. Gentle martial arts like aikido would be very good for him.

He is also very fascinated by the mysteries of life and death. He is likely to ask some very searching questions about death at an early age.

Sun Square Jupiter:

Optimism, positive expectations, and exuberance Grey has in abundance, but he tends to go to excesses with his enthusiasm of the moment. He can be wasteful, extravagant, and careless with his resources and energy. He likes to have a good time and to go all-out, but he tends to overdo. He does have a buoyant, resilient spirit and a philosophical bent that enables him to learn from all of his experiences and to emerge with fresh hope, even from a very difficult situation.

Sun Square Uranus:

Impulsive, spontaneous, and unpredictable, Grey is unlikely to do anything quite the way you expect him to. He has his own rather unusual, offbeat ways, and he does not like to conform to rules, regulations, or convention. He questions authority, and is something of a rebel or iconoclast. He needs a great deal of freedom. His gifts are his originality, inventiveness, and creativity.

Sun Sextile Mars:

Grey is quite lively and energetic, and he cannot tolerate being inactive or kept still for very long. He likes to be on the go. His health and vitality are quite strong, and he prefers outdoor activities and projects to quieter pastimes.

MERCURY

MERCURY represents thinking and reasoning processes, the way your child's mind works, his intellectual inclinations and way of communicating ideas.

Mercury in Sagittarius:

Even as a child, Grey tends to think in broad, abstract terms, and he is very interested in traveling, social studies, foreign cultures, and anything that will expand his understanding of the world. He is very curious and insatiable when it comes to learning, but he tends to gloss over details and to be rather sloppy when it comes to in-depth technical understanding.

Mercury Conjunct Saturn:

Grey has a serious and deep mind, and he is inclined to be uncommunicative or ill at ease with light, banal social conversation. When he studies a subject, he is very careful, thorough, and exacting. His concentration and ability to work on difficult, demanding intellectual problems is very good. He can be too rigid in his thinking, however.

Moon Opposition Mercury:

Grey seems to need quite a bit of conversation and give-and-take, and when he is upset, he needs to talk about it.

Writing his feelings down in a journal, letter, story or poem is a very good emotional outlet for him.

MOON

The MOON in the birthchart indicates how he deals with and expresses feelings, how he experiences the world on an emotional, feeling, non-verbal level, what his emotional needs are, and what he needs to feel secure, comfortable and at ease.

Moon in Gemini:

One of the primary ways that Grey responds to the world is by thinking and talking about it, and if given any encouragement at all, he will discuss his feelings and experiences very readily. Creating a ritual of talking about the ups and downs of his day with him, just prior to going to sleep at night, can be very relaxing and soothing for him, putting him at ease. Even at a young age, before he can articulate, he is likely to be a chatterbox and to need quite a bit of social interaction and "conversation."  He will love hearing rhymes, jingles, and little songs, and he will often respond with a stream of his own jabbering. Try not to tell him to "be quiet" too often as he is growing up, because speaking is a significant means of self expression for him.

Grey needs an interesting stimulating environment and he may become cranky and out of sorts when he exhausts all of the materials and playthings you provide for him. He will love books, story tapes, puzzles, and mentally challenging games, such as word games or computer games. Restless and easily bored, he is inclined to lose interest in an activity rather quickly. It may seem that he needs to be entertained constantly. He grasps concepts quickly and is always eager to see or experience something new. Outings to the library, to visit friends, or just anything to break up his routine will always be welcome. He adapts well to changes in his environment.

This child has an insatiable curiosity and desire to learn about the world. and he is unlikely to cling too tightly to your apron strings. The outside world is just too fascinating. He is also somewhat uncomfortable with emotions, sentimentality, and others' emotional needs or demands. When difficult feelings such as fear or sadness arise, he will often simply ignore them or try to make a joke. Sometimes he becomes silly in response to intense feelings or situations that he does not understand. Even at a surprisingly young age he can be detached and objective in emotionally-charged situations.

VENUS

VENUS represents the way your child gives and receives affection, makes friends, and socializes. It also indicates artistic or creative inclinations.

Venus in Pisces:

Soft-hearted and compassionate, Grey's sympathy inclines him to try to take care of people or to befriend those that others ridicule. It is very hard for him to say no to a friend. Any unkindness really offends and hurts his feelings.

Venus Conjunct Neptune:

Grey is very sensitive to beauty, and his artistic imagination is very rich. He can immerse himself completely in his fantasies or artistic activity for long periods of time.

Also, he tends to idealize his friends and the people he loves, which may lead to disillusionment when he discovers that they are not as loving or perfect as he believed.

MARS

MARS represents your child's drive, ambition, will, energy level, and ability to assert himself.

Mars in Pisces:

Grey has trouble asserting himself, deciding what he wants and taking definite action, or pushing his own interests. His physical energy and aggressive instincts are not very strong. He may need extra sleep or naps during the day, even when he is an older child, in order to recharge.

Mars Conjunct Neptune:

Grey is disinclined to fight or to assert himself in a strong, decisive way, and he is likely to struggle with feelings of weakness or ineffectiveness in competitive situations. He may lack forcefulness and the will to put his own interests first, so he is inclined to give in when faced with opposition. He needs to build up his physical strength, courage, and belief in himself. Positively, he is inspired by a desire to contribute to the greater good rather than simply working for his own personal benefit.

Mars Sextile Pluto:

When Grey wants something, he may not fight for it, but he is very insistent and relentless and gains his aims in a quiet, persistent, subtle, behind-the-scenes sort of way.

JUPITER

JUPITER in the birth chart reveals the child's future aspirations, and how he seeks to grow and improve himself.  It also indicates areas of natural confidence, success, or "luck."

Jupiter in Libra:

Broadminded tolerance and an idealistic concern for fairness, equality, and "everyone getting a chance" are among Grey's character assets.  One benefit of this is that he simply gets along with people very well; other people--especially teachers and others in the broader social world--like him and want to help him.  He tends to be the peacemaker among his friends, and can be appealed to through his strong sense of fairness and balance. ("You got to ride in the front seat yesterday; it's his turn today.")  He's very personable and considerate, and he wants to be treated as a friend, even by older relatives or adults he sees frequently.  He seeks to grow through these friendly alliances with other people.

Jupiter Opposition Uranus:

Grey has a playful exuberance that will last his whole life.  He loves to take risks, try new things, go for the gusto!  Taking chances, diving in to new territory, and trusting in wild crazy luck are the ways he seeks to grow and learn about life.

Jupiter Square Pluto:

Grey may well be interested in MEGA success and should be encouraged to count (rather than discount) his small victories and achievements.  He wants to see how he can influence the world in a broad way, and so would be interested in organizations that make change, like PETA perhaps, or some environmental group, or any other organization aligned with his values.  Even at a young age he can be something of a zealot. Parents and teachers should not underestimate or dissuade him from his seemingly impossible quests.

Jupiter Sextile Saturn:

Grey embraces discipline and patient practice when he has a goal or interest.  For instance, learning to play a musical instrument or regularly doing a small job in order to save for something important to him. Older children and adults will often take him under their wing and help him along because they sense his sincerity and willingness to learn and do the work.

SATURN

The position of SATURN in your child's birth chart indicates the areas in which he is especially insecure, about which he is most serious, and/or in which he works hardest or is hardest on himself.  It also reveals those weaknesses which, through effort, may become his greatest strengths.

Saturn in Sagittarius:

Grey needs to develop a belief in a caring, safe, and ultimately benevolent Universe in order to overcome his personal fears and insecurities.  He needs to trust in a higher order, justice and wisdom.  Otherwise, his ability to freely explore and venture into new territories will be inhibited.  While he is a very young child, this may be true in a literal sense: He might, for instance, want to take the same route to the market every time, be less than enthusiastic about visiting a new friend's house, or need massive doses of reassurance when he's about to do anything for the first time.  As he grows older, he may be fearful or suspicious of those whose appearance, background, religion, or belief system differs from his own.  Philosophical rigidity or cynicism could also develop--a belief that certain props or processes are absolutely necessary for salvation (or security or success).  Exposure to religious teachings which inspire fear is especially detrimental to this child.  Even watching the nightly news can considerably erode his confidence unless this viewing is counterbalanced by more positive and hopeful images.

Books such as Will It Be Okay? by Crescent Dragonwagon or Why Can't Grownups Believe in Angels? by Marsha Sinetar may be helpful.

Saturn Trine Uranus:

As he meets obstacles and difficulties, one ally Grey has is his willingness to invite help from unexpected or novel sources and to invent new solutions while not disregarding the tried and true.  Praise and reinforce his flexibility.  He may also be the one in the family who acts as a bridge between discordant family members, and especially so when they are from different generations.

GENERATIONAL INFLUENCES

The slow-moving planets Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto represent the ideals, changes, and impulses of an entire generation. While the descriptions below may or may not describe your child as an individual, they will tell you about the climate of the times and the underlying issues and challenges of your child's age group.

For instance, when Neptune (which represents one's spiritual ideals, dreams, aspirations, fantasies and illusions) passed through the egalitarian and harmony-loving sign of Libra (from 1943-1957), the children who would grow into the "flower children," hippies, and supporters of the peace movement were born. Not every person born during that time became a hippie or identified themselves with the peace movement, but certainly they were affected by the feeling-tone and ideals of their age group and the times they grew up in. Thus, the following information is intended to give you insight into the important motifs and issues of your child's generation.

URANUS indicates where the impulse for change, innovation, liberation from the past, and experimentation with new forms is the strongest. It is where the status quo is disrupted or uprooted to make way for something new. Sudden inspiration and invention are also represented by Uranus.

Uranus in Aries:

FREEDOM for the individual is of utmost importance to this age group. They are some of the most extreme when it comes to following their own inner spark as opposed to adhering to the rules or guidelines imposed by outside authority. They are infused with a powerful spirit of adventurous freedom, self reliance, and revolution, and are in no way passive if their personal freedoms are impinged upon. Many will be seen as incendiary troublemakers.

Uranus Square Pluto:

Born during a period of massive change and disruption in the world, Grey is part of a group of souls destined to undergo radical severance from many of the old ways of life.  Because of this, many of them will hold tightly to whatever security they can find, and be quite resistant to change in their worlds.  Some, however, will be deeply iconoclastic and instigators of further transformation of the society they are a part of.

NEPTUNE represents the quest for the ideal, the dream, for something more sublime. The sign it is passing through at the time of one's birth colors one's spiritual aspirations and ideals, and also indicates where the desire to escape reality, to fantasize, deceive oneself, and become lost in illusion is the strongest.

Neptune in Pisces:

Profoundly mystical forces are washing over the collective psyche of this group. The life of the soul becomes paramount. Water also becomes a primary concern. Healing waters, fountains, and springs with supernatural powers, as well as being "washed" with the Holy Spirit may play important roles.

PLUTO in the birth chart indicates a process of deep change, transformation, and renewal, often through destruction or confrontation with darkness.  This is a process that takes place in society as well as in individuals.  Pluto's position in the birth chart shows where one is compulsive, extreme, or learning key life lessons.

Pluto in Capricorn:

Those born during these years (2008-2023) struggle to transform corruption, greed, and the control of power and natural resources in the world around them. Large, impersonal institutions and the heavy handed authoritarianism that breaks them up will be challenged by these children as they grow up. They will be profoundly influenced by witnessing the way power is wielded by their fathers and other authorities they encounter. Cynicism and upheaval may result if integrity, wisdom, and a positive use of masculine strength is not modeled for these children.

This astrological portrait of your child is intended to give you insight into his unique gifts and challenges. Much of a child's behavior which may puzzle or stymie his parents are quite normal, common "developmental stages" of childhood, and there are a number of fine books available on the subject which illuminate the predictable stages that children experience as they unfold. In addition to the universal patterns, each child is an individual with particular qualities, potentials, and needs, and an understanding of these can help you parent your child more wisely and effectively. Acceptance and appreciation for a child's basic nature, and an awareness of the places where there might be stress or difficulties for your child, can be important allies in your parenting.

You will find that the interpretation of your child's chart is written in simple language, uncluttered by astrological jargon. If a statement appears to contradict another statement, then he exhibits these opposite qualities at different times in his life. For example, a statement that he is highly sociable and gregarious and a statement that you prefer solitude seemingly contradict each other; this means that he vacillates, and needs both sociability and solitude at different times.
